Not a knitter

This year I finally conceded that I am not a knitter.  As much as I would love to create some lovely knitted items, knitting doesn't agree with me at all!  I have carpel tunnel syndrome in my left hand (right was operated on a few years ago) and I can only knit a few rows before having no feeling in it!  I've tried with knitting, and last year even managed to complete a hat and wrist warmer set - but I unravelled the hat this morning having finally decided that it is unlikely my head will ever swell to twice its normal size and therefore fit into it! :)

With that declared, I am happy to say that I am a crocheter!  YAY!  I love the lacy and varied look and feel of crochet, how fast a piece can work up and that many project are "tune-out-able" (ie, I don't have to think too much or count - just work).  So this year I've been hooking up a storm and have managed to complete a number of projects including several dishcloths, a cowl for my mother in law's birthday, a small granny square throw for my couch, a beret, an amigarumi toy and a set of flower clips and a headband for a child's birthday.

I'm now having a clothing focus for me and am halfway through this lovely dolman sleever jumper and have just started making myself a pair of socks using Crazy Coley's basic sock pattern together with some fuzzy wuzzy yellow yarn I got from Lincraft yesterday and my brand new crochet hooks.  The rest of the family are now eyeing off my first sock with interest - I could be working on socks for quite some time!

I am loving sitting in front of the TV at night or curling up in my bedroom window chair for a bit of crochet work.  I feel relaxed and comfy, while also feeling like I'm achieving something - the perfect balance.

  1. I would love to learn to knit or crochet. When I was young I knew a very basic crochet stitch, one that just kept going round and round. But I never knew how to start or end. I am going to make it one of my goals! Who knows how long it will take, but its something I really want to learn.
